When it comes to my skincare, I consider myself pretty darn healthy. My diet is mostly clean. I don’t smoke. I apply sunscreen to minimize sun damage. I wash my face regularly and use foundation with SPF (to cover up those blemishes and sun damage from my irresponsible teenage years).

But I just learned I’m skipping a crucial step. Apparently, 60% of skin products get absorbed into our bodies, and while I read the ingredients lists on food and drink, I can’t say I do the same for my skin care products. After sitting down with Andie Wafzig of EVER skin, all that is about to change.

First of all, there are hundreds of thousands of chemicals that go into cosmetic and personal care products. The industry is known to be highly unregulated. Many of the chemicals are skin irritants, endocrine disruptors, skin penetrators, and are carcinogenic. The top 10 to avoid: Parabens, synthetic colors, fragrance, Phthalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde, Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) / Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), Toluene, Propylene glycol., and sunscreen chemicals such as benzophenone, PABA, avobenzone, homosalate and ethoxycinnmate.

I don’t know about you, but monitoring my products and making sure that none of them have these harmful ingredients in them sounds like a lot of work. That’s where Andi comes in. She sells a skincare line called EVER founded by a team of women with a combined 125 years in the beauty industry.  EVER only uses good-for-you ingredients, and has shown powerful results in improving skin health.

“When it comes to your skin, good enough just doesn’t cut it. With our performance promise in mind we set out to create great! We partnered with the best in the business to develop luxuriously clean products formulated with the right combination of natural, botanical and synthetic ingredients that deliver powerful results.”

By “best in the business”, they are talking about top execs from Bare Minerals, Estee Lauder, and MAC Cosmetics. These cosmetic powerhouses banned together with the goal of creating a healthy skincare product that doesn’t compromise efficacy.

EVER uses a breakthrough science called LSR10, a bioactive complex of three powerful, natural components, Ectoin, Magnolia Bark, and Ergothionine, scientifically formulated to reduce the to 10 visible signs of aging. They broke down what each of these components does for your skin on their website:

Ectoin: A natural compound that helps reduce the visible effects of sun damage and premature aging.

Magnolia Bark: Contains Honokiol, an antioxidant that is 1000x more potent than Vitamin E.

Ergothionine: An amino acid that helps to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and helps reduce visible signs of sun damage and aging.

The best part is that these three products are all naturally occurring compounds.

Mer and I tried out the SUBLIME Retinol Eye Wrinkle Smoother, the LAVISH Ultra Rich Body Butter, and their new Smooth Stick Lip Tint. I have been using the body butter for a few weeks and it smells absolutely delicious. It has a great consistency and makes my skin feel smoother. The natural cocoa butter scent alone has me hooked. Mer has been using the eye wrinkle smoother which she said feels great. Next time we’ll take before and after pictures, but Mer does think she’s experienced some tightening of fine lines and wrinkles around her eyes. The lip tint is great for a lightweight moisture-rich pop of color. It also hasn’t dehydrated our lips like so many other products out there.
